The Finished Design

Finished Logo Design

CASE STUDY OF CLIENT LOGO DESIGN PROCESS:

This is a case study for Rollie's Bar and Grill in Belfast, Maine, USA.

The Client Brief:

Rollie's Bar and Grill is located in Belfast, Maine. It is centrally located in the heart of town and within eye site of the town harbor. Our search is something that will not be too flashy as the town is relaxed yet we still wish something eye catching. The main reason is for outside the bar as a two-sided sign. Our bar is exactly like the Cheers Bar from TV. We must also say we like that design, yet don't want it to look exactly the same. Maine does have many middle age tourist come through our area. We hope the sign pulls them to our place for lunch or an evening drink.

IQLogo Logo Design Process:

The first thing that happens when we receive a new logo design order is to call the design team together for a brain storming session. The designers (minimum of three per project) discuss the clients request and decide if any extra information is needed. If no extra information is needed, the designers thrash out many ideas and trains of thought. This is the creative stage and leads to the design of unique concepts.

The Concept Stage:

The design team is recalled to present their concepts to the lead designer. The lead designer is always from another project so as not to negatively influence this critical stage of selection. The concepts are laid out and the lead designer chooses a minimum of three to present to the client. The selected concepts are then presented to the client in their own private viewing area where they can make comments on each design.

The Clients Choice:

The client takes as much time as they need to study all of the concepts presented to them. When they are ready to go to the next stage of design the client chooses a single design to move forward with. In the case of Rollie's Bar and Grill, the client chose concept number 4. This is what the client had to say about their chosen concept:

[What do you think of the colors? Are the colors right?] The colors look great as we like how it stands out. Is it possible to tweak the color on the mugs to more of a yellow/gold color to replicate beer without throwing everything off?

[Do you feel there's something that's missing?] We really like the concept with the guy holding the mugs. Really looks inviting as if he is saying "come on in", however the crowd we gather is a little more relaxed. Is it possible to relax the guy? Meaning without the bow tie and tux look. Maybe with a mustache and more relaxed. Wife was wondering if it was possible to add something with food? All I could think of was dropping one of the mugs and working in a sandwich?

The Revision Process:

The winning designer (we compete against each other :-)) takes the clients comments and refines the design based on what was said. We do this almost as soon as we get the feedback from the client as it is important to keep the momentum going. This insures the focus remains from both sides.

Once the logo designer has completed the changes based on what the client has said, the new logo design is presented to the customer. Again comments are solicited from the client because our policy is that of complete satisfaction. If the client is not 100% delighted then we keep at it until they are. It is in our interest to get these changes right.

The First Revision:

This is the logo design we presented to the client for further comment based on what they told us.

Logo Revision 1

Clients Comments For Revision 1:

[What do you think of the colors? Are the colors right?] Okay the colors look good. What I would like to do is take away some of the red that to me pulls from the red around the name. The handle on the beer I think can go as the hand looks as if he has it in his closed hand. There is some red under the plate that we would like removed. Is it possible to tweak the burger coloring just a little to take away some of the red and make it just a little more real looking. Not a lot, just a little

[Do you feel there's something that's missing?] Lastly the wife would like another eye and shorten his hair to match the other side. I see what the look is, but feel I have to give in to her on something. :-)

Okay, we do not want to make any other corrections. So please send it our way after these changes. Guys great work when I look at the cost. Thanks again.

The Second Revision:

The client has now asked for additional changes from the logo designer. The logo designer again takes the clients comments and translates those back in to the design of the logo. This revision cycle process can go on indefinitely (it rarely does) because that is what we promise every client. Unlimited revisions to your chosen concept. The next revision is now presented to the client even though they just asked us to send it to them. We would never do that because we want to receive the final green light from the client and insure that there are not any further changes that they might need.

This is what IQLogo presented to the client.

Logo Revision 2

Client Comments For Revision 2:

Okay guys great job. This logo is good to go so please send the final. Please send to my email address (supplied). Question, I will also need to have some business cards done. Although I feel I can just drop the logo on the card, do you do another design for cards that is different? Just a question as maybe something else we may want to do.

The Final Stage:

The client is 100% satisfied with their new logo design. We are now ready to prepare the design for shipping to the client. When the client completed the order form they selected the option to receive a CD with all the files on in addition to having them emailed. There is no extra charge to have the CD option.

The files are prepared in formats for professional printing as well as use on a web site and in office applications like MS Word etc. Typically the format we supply to the client are JPG, Tiff, EPS. Other formats are also available. Just request any extra formats and we will do our best to supply.

We also prepare a final bill for the clients accounts as logo design is often Tax Deductible. A statement of copyright ownership also transfers the copyright of the logo design from IQLogo to the client. This then allows the client to have the design registered as a trade mark. We never use clipart or reuse parts of other logo designs, so you can be sure that obtaining copyright for your new logo design should not be a problem for you.
